Coordination of Benefits

The Extended Health Care Plan (EHCP) policy regarding Coordination of Benefits (COB) for SGEU and CUPE employees is being updated effective February 1, 2026. Eligible employees whose spouse is also insured under the Extended Health Care Plan will now receive their own individual coverage, as the previous same-employer spousal limitation has been removed.

Claims incurred on or after February 1, 2026, may now be coordinated between spouses’ plans in accordance with standard industry COB rules. Coordination of Benefits will continue to apply for dependent children, where the primary plan is determined by the parent whose birthday falls earlier in the calendar year.
